As you may have noticed, my once-faithful "song o' the week" column has failed horribly the past two weeks. It seems to be dying, so I will stop it for now. I will probably change the song every once in a while, just not every week.
The song which will be playing for what is now an indefinite period of time is called "Penguin" by Christina Perri. She's definitely not a Christian artist, so I really don't recommend her as an artist; I just like this particular song by her.

My First Sonnet

"Sun Sonnet"
By: Me:)
An orange mist glowed, blowing away dark;
Into their dens crept the stars, one by one.
The moon forfeited her glorious mark,
As all the sky submitted to the sun.
Gentle hues of orange were covered by
Bursts of livid red, as the shy moon got
Chided for claiming control of the sky;
then Moon succumbed to sun: the sky was bought.
Nighttime spells were cast away by sunlight:
Color was breathed into the waking earth,
As the dome above glimmered emerald-bright,
And God had given the world a new-birth.
Man, forgetting each moment of our lives.
Somewhere there is a glorious sunrise.

For an English assignment, we had to write a poem, and I decided to attempt a sonnet. It's a Shakespearean sonnet, and I had fun writing it. Although I've written a few poems before, I've never written a sonnet before, so I'm glad I did. Though the poem is not as emotional as I'd like it to be, since it's my first, I'm making excuses for myself. ;)
What I focused on is making my end words rhyme well, and for each line to contain ten syllables.
Definitely planning to write a few more in the near future.

Song O' Thee Week
While driving home from Hilo last week, my younger brother Michael stuck his ipod's earphone into my ear and said, "I think you'll like this song." And brotha, was he right! I've fallen in love with it ever since, because it applies perfectly to all of my emotions lately. It's by and artist I hadn't even heard of until then: Josh Wilson. He's got a few other great songs, so I say look him up if you like the song "I Refuse" down below!
I hope you as are touched by it as I was!

In the Air
Sorry for not blogging in. so. long. The only way I can partially describe things is that life has been sort of up in the air lately.
One thing I have been dwelling on, though, is this question:
How do I expect to find satisfaction through anything in life, if I don't have complete and utter fulfillment and satisfaction in God?
You see, I'm one of those people who tries to find joy from almost any other area in life possible but through God. And the truth is, I didn't even realize it until that question was whispered in my ear.
I mean, sure, I love God, I read my Bible, I try to seek Him; but in the end I'm still not truly crying out for joy and satisfaction and contentment. Unconsciously, I was still seeking those things in other places--from good grades, accomplishments, people, etc. From almost everything but the true source of joy, happiness, and satisfaction. From my Jesus, who wanted to fill me up and give me more joy than I could imagine.
He was showing me that I needed to find joy in Him until I could expect to find happiness through anything else. The only way I'm going to find happiness in anything is if I'm doing it for Him.
So that's what I've been dwelling on. :) Maybe I'll start blogging more later on, or maybe not. We'll just have to wait and see.
"As the Father loved Me, I also have loved you; abide in My love. If you keep My commandments , you will abide in My love, just as I have kept My Father's commandments and abide in His love. These things I have spoken to you, that My joy may remain in you, and that your joy may be full."

Song O' Thee Week
The new song you hear playing on my blog is by John Mayer, and let's just say it applies to my life at the moment. It's becoming a theme song of mine, reminding me to live without regrets and do God's will. I so often hold myself back from saying what ought to be said--keeping myself low-profile in places where I ought to be reflecting Christ.
Though I know John Mayer isn't a Christian artist, I like this particular song by him. Let me know what you think!

Rhyming Wa-doodle
"Trees"
By: Joyce Kilmer
I think that I shall never see
A poem lovely as a tree.
A tree whose hungy mouth is prest
Against the earth's sweet flowing breast;
A tree that looks at God all day
And lifts her leafy arms to pray;
Upon whose bosom snow has lain;
Who intimately lives with rain.
Poems are made by fools like me,
But only God can make a tree.

Love this poem. I read it in my literature book a few days ago. There was a little passage about the author next to the poem, and it was so sad to read that he "was killed in France during World War I." Somehow I felt like I knew him a little, through his poetry.
